Stick Art

I saw this Driftwood Seahorse thing on Pinterest and thought it was a cool idea. Then I saw that my dad was trimming the birch trees and were throwing away a bunch of small branches. I thought to myself that maybe I can try to be artsy and make my own woody wall art. By the way, my sister was the one who had the bright idea of using the birch branches. I would have just collected sticks on the ground.

So I dragged in a couple of branches and spent some good time trimming them down to bare branches.

I also cut out this silhouette from a random piece of cardboard. I only wanted to make a small one first to see if I'll like it before spending time on a large one.

Glue gun. Bam!

Cut branches and glue glue glue!

Done! I must say, I'm very happy with the result. However, I think it was a lot easier for me to cut the branches because they are still fresh and soft.

I showed the finished product to my parents and both of them thought that I made a swan. I can see that. Maybe it'll be an interpret art piece. Maybe I'll even hang it upside down!

Xam

Have you hug someone you love today?

Halloween!

Halloween this year will be chilled but also cool, too. I finally have met an animal who will let me dress him up in a costume. I present to you, Gizmo, the bumblebee!

I couldn't find a cute dog costume so I bought a human costume with wings and antennae for him.

My sister and I also went to Walmart and got a pumpkin for $4. I only bought one pumpkin but I wanted to carve a cat carving and a dog carving to honor Suppy and Rocky.

Rest well beautiful animals and happy Halloween!

Christmas With Cats

20121223-DSC_1702
We used to set up a Christmas tree every year. The first year that we got our first kitten, Suppy, she destroyed the tree in one night. From then on, we stopped with the tree.

Since March of last year, Suppy came to live in my apartment with me. My family took that as a sign that they would finally get to put up a tree again. And they did.

20121224-DSC_1711
I guess our other cats are not tree killers because that thing was still standing when I came back home.

20121224-DSC_1745
Not only that they didn't destroy the tree, they even joined in the festivities. This is Calvin sitting next to the card my sister made for me. My sister always makes the best cards.

20121224-DSC_1775
We opened our presents and found a Calvin!

Another kitty cat present!

Calvin helped to open presents.

Hobbes just watched. What a lazy Hobbes!

20121224-DSC_1865
Just kidding, Hobbes "helped," too.

20121224-DSC_1794
What? Hobbes doesn't help!

20121224-DSC_1879
I do, too!

20121224-DSC_1860
I help by looking pretty!

20121224-DSC_1831
In that case, I'm helping, too!

20121224-DSC_1893
Too much helping, we're tired.

20121224-DSC_1901
Stop helping, just cuddle.

Art, pup, and shark

Every 2nd Saturday of the month, Sacramento art galleries are open to the public. It's called Sacramento Art Walk or Second Saturday. This month, I went with my sister to one of the galleries because her boss' boyfriend had his stuff on display. Oakland has a similar event called Oakland Art Murmur which happens on every first Friday of each month.

Chickedees Part II

Remember these chicks? They're all grown up now. Behold!

My sister is taking them back to their coop after a long day of digging around in the dirt.

Chickedees!

On the day that I was babysitting Zorba, I received a call from my sister.

I found a chick! - she said.
What? - I said.
A chick was wandering in our backyard! - she replied.

So she set out to see to whom the chick belonged. She asked the kids in the neighborhood who were playing near by. They did not know. During her quest, she found another chick! Then later on, the neighborhood kids found a 3rd one and gave it to her!

Boy oh boy.

They are incredibly cute! What do you think?

Like anything baby, they were full of energy and could not stand still. My sister, the most awesome person in the world, got them a heating pad and took on the painstaking task of grinding up rice to feed them...all while looking pretty.

So we called the SPCA, they said that we cannot surrender them unless we've had them for 30 days already. No way these chicks were older than 30 days, so cannot lie there. My dad posted flyers around the neighborhood but nobody was claiming them so....

...my dad built them a coop! Hahah!

20110402-DSC_2072
This is what they look like a month ago. I think they are hens and we hope that they are hens, but we will see.

20100918-IMG_8855
My sister is now a farmer. The chicks, now in their rambunctious teenage stage, think that she's their mommy (mother hen, teehee) and follow her everywhere.

The cats think the chicks are tasty!

Just kidding! They prefer the plastic fowls.

Zorba Babysitting

I got to babysit a dog for a night! Meet Zorba!

20110305-DSC_1598
Zorba's human had to go off and did fun stuff without him.

20110305-DSC_1519
He lives in a really swanky place. This is Zorba's entrance.

20110305-DSC_1575
Zorba's swanky dinning room. Yeaaah...I don't know why my shoes were in the dinning room.

20110305-DSC_1489
Zorba's fine view.

20110305-DSC_1544
Zorba also has really cool toys.

20110305-DSC_1530
Zorba really likes walks.

20110305-DSC_1499
On our walk, we spied cute steps. Zorba peed here.

20110305-DSC_1498
...really cool yard decorations. Zorba also peed here.

20110305-DSC_1500
...and he peed under this tree.

20110305-DSC_1509
Look! A square root! Hahahah... Zorba and I laughed. We were so amused. He did not pee here.

20110305-DSC_1512
...but he peed around here.

20110305-DSC_1524
We walked and walked until Zorba ran out of pee.

20110305-DSC_1526
We came back to Zorba's place with the swanky light fixtures. What were we going to do after the walk?

20110305-DSC_1565
Zorba's human left really detailed instructions on how to turn on the teevee.

20110305-DSC_1566
But we decided that we did not care for Pandora and Netflix.

20110305-DSC_1492
So we looked out the window!

20110305-DSC_1580
And we explored the kitchen.

20110305-DSC_1582
We found out that Zorba's human is as swanky as Zorba. He has All-Clad pots and pans. When LeTran is 42, she hopes to own some swanky All-Clad pots and pans, too!

20110305-DSC_1587
We found this cool magnetic beads on the fridge!

20110305-DSC_1588
And we spent a lot of time playing with them. Each bead is a magnet! Each bead is capable of sticking to another bead and the fridge. They blew LeTran's mind.

20110305-DSC_1591
I thought I could make a miniature of the Eiffel tower with this stuff...but I failed. My Eiffel tower ran out of money.

20110305-DSC_1558
Zorba said "Really, LeTran? I think you just ran out of skills."
Oh, that Zorba!

20110305-DSC_1562
So we spent the rest of the time snapping pictures and putting treats in Zorba's toys.

20110305-DSC_1606

20110305-DSC_1613
"When is Steve coming back? *sigh*"

20110305-DSC_1615
"Maybe after I open my eyes, Steve would be here."

20110305-DSC_1616
Zorba went to get a drink and got some water droplets on his muzzle pouch.

20110305-DSC_1621

20110305-DSC_1627
"Okay, I'm getting really sleepy now..."

20110305-DSC_1633
"ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ...huh?...wah?"

20110305-DSC_1638
Snoozitude!

By the way, Zorba slept with me. I don't know about you, but when an animal like a cat or a dog chooses to curl up next to me (or on my legs, or my face) to sleep, it's pretty awesome. One of the best feelings in the world!
